After an extended vacation (and some technical difficulties), While You Were Away is back! Did you miss us? This week we’re checking out new music from All Time Low, Ho99o9, and Biffy Clyro, remembering Douglas McCarthy, and more.

All Time Low return with new song ‘SUCKERPUNCH,’ announce 2025 tour

All Time Low return with their new song and video “SUCKERPUNCH.” The anthemic track is about “getting knocked down so many times that you learn to wear your bruises like badges,” explains frontman Alex Gaskarth.

“The music and tone of the song are so intentionally steeped in overconfident swagger, while the lyrics tell a very different story about stepping into the ring with an opponent twice your size, waiting for the bell to ring with a smile on your face,” he continued. “It’s saying ‘I have been so many different things for you, why not be your punching bag as well?’ I wanted to marry the grit and punch of an arena rock song with moments of Quincy Jones and Genesis… That culminated in a song that felt like kicking the door down, so we knew this had to come out first.”

The video, directed by Gaskarth and Nick Stafford, features a veteran stuntman named Axel Griffin, who reflects on his career.

Additionally, All Time Low also announced the “EVERYONE’S TALKING! TOUR” with special guests Mayday Parade, The Cab, Four Year Strong, and The Paradox on select dates. The tour kicks off on October 4th in Missoula, Montana, and runs through November 9th in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 20th, at 10 AM local time.

Biffy Clyro are back! The Scottish rock band have shared their new song “A Little Love,” their first release since 2021’s The Myth of The Happily Ever After.

After making its live debut at Radio 1’s Big Weekend last month, the song finally gets a proper release and a striking music video. Directed by Piers Dennis, the clip is inspired by Marina Abramović’s 1977 work, “Relation In Time,” and features the band showcasing their shared resilience through their movements. Hip hop/industrial metal duo Ho99o9 have announced their new album, Tomorrow We Escape. The album drops September 9th and finds theOGM and Yeti Bones getting more emotional and personal in their songs.

“When we started this process, we knew we wanted to make more relatable songs,” explains theOGM. “It was a healthy challenge to focus on emotion. In the past, a lot of our material was politically charged. That element is present to a degree, but we wanted to take a more personal route. This mindset drove how we wrote songs. Everybody has a struggle. The goal is to find motivation for preservation.”

As a preview, Ho99o9 have shared lead single “Upside Down.” The song’s accompanying video depicts a dystopian future where the duo exploits a natural resource to sell water on the black market. Watch it below.

Douglas McCarthy, singer of Nitzer Ebb, dies at 58

Douglas McCarthy, the frontman of industrial group Nitzer Ebb, has died at the age of 58. The band revealed the news in a statement posted to social media, saying:

“It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform that Douglas McCarthy passed away this morning of June 11th, 2025. We ask everyone to please be respectful of Douglas, his wife, and family in this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding and will share more information soon.” At this time, a cause of death has not been revealed; however, McCarthy had been struggling with health issues in recent years due to the effects of cirrhosis.

McCarthy co-founded Nitzer Ebb in 1982 with friends Vaughan “Bon” Harris and David Gooday. Gooday left the group in 1987, leaving McCarthy and Harris to continue as a duo. McCarthy would go on to record six albums with Nitzer Ebb, including 1987’s That Total Age, 1989’s Belief, 1990’s Showtime, 1991’s Ebbhead, and 1995’s Big Hit.

The group disbanded in 1995 and reunited in 2007. Gooday returned the band in 2019 for a North American reunion tour. Though McCarthy remained an integral part of the group, he took a step back from touring in 2024 due to health concerns.

We send our thoughts to McCarthy’s family and friends during this difficult time.
